Young ladies from Girl Inc. learn to skate
Wow! Time flies when you are having fun. We’ve had a lot going on with NRG over the last couple of weeks. New girl workshops and tryouts, musical chairs with Freddy Fever (mascot for the Indianapolis Fever), and Pub Trivia are just a few of the awesome events your local Roller Girls have been participating in lately. We also want to mention the great afternoon we spent with Girls, Inc.
On June 29th NRG invited 48 young ladies, ages 6-14, to join us for a little skating fun. Sweet C, Lilly Whip, Mizz Understood (and her daughter, Punch), J. Roller, Cleo Poundya and 4 Leaf Cleaver spent the afternoon instructing this energetic bunch on the life of a Roller Girl. We stressed the importance of good nutrition, proper stretching, teamwork, determination, and, of course, having a good time. We set up stations for the girls to rotate through, each teaching an important skill used in derby. At the end we had free skate time, which many of the girls used to practice these skills even more. It was a wonderful experience for both NRG and Girls, Inc. Remember: the children of today are the derby players of tomorrow.
