About the WFTDA
Founded in 2004, the WFTDA promotes and fosters the sport of women’s flat-track derby by facilitating the development of athletic ability, sportswomanship, and goodwill among member leagues. The governing philosophy is “by the skaters, for the skaters.” Women skaters are primary owners, managers, and operators of each member league and of the association. WFTDA’s operational tasks include setting standards for rules, seasons and safety, and determining guidelines for the national and international athletic competitions of member leagues. All member leagues have a voice in the decision-making process, and agree to comply with the governing body’s policies. For more information, visit wftda.com.
About the Naptown Roller Girls
The Naptown Roller Girls, and its competing team, The Tornado Sirens, are made up of Indianapolis women who want to do one thing: SKATE. Formed in 2006, The Naptown Roller Girls are a DIY flat-track roller derby league, one of more than 100 flat- and banked-track roller derby leagues around the country. Our ladies have collected bruises, torn tendons, dislocated ankles and broken bones to bring roller derby to the Indianapolis area. The Naptown Roller Girls ended its first season with a 6-2 record. The league has been on WICR’s “The Free Zone” and WZPL’s “Smiley in the Morning Show,” as well as on WFYI, Fox News, WISH, WTHR, WRTV and Inside Indiana Business. We’ve also been featured in print in The Indianapolis Star, the Indianapolis Business Journal, INtake, NUVO, Hometown Hot Rod magazine, International Tattoo Art magazine and Tattoos for Women magazine.
