What do you like to do outside of derby?
Run, bike, swim, rock climb, AD&D, video games, martial arts, playing with my kids which is beginning to include cosplay. I am a manga/anime nut, and my kids had no chance to grow up normal. My kids will be attending Ikasucon & GenCon with me as Ichigo Kurosaki, Yachiru Kusajishi, and Kisuke Urahara. Myself—Soi Fon, of course.
Were you a troublemaker as a kid?
No. I was the brainy/nerdy kid everyone hated since my grades set the grading scale for the class. I was liked by all my teachers, though.
What / who inspires you?
There are so many people and things that inspire me it is hard to mention just a few. I love good people going out of their way to do good things for others—even though others may not always appreciate it at the time. My kids probably inspire me the most to be a better person in many aspects.
What is the meaning behind your derby name?
Kitiara is a character in Dragonlance novels by Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman. She is a warrior/Dragon Highlord and all-around evil/badass type. I was going back and forth between Kit and Major Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell. In case you haven’t noticed the trend here, I am a nerd.
What advice would you give to anyone looking to make it in the real world?
The real world is a rough place right now, but work hard and be true to yourself, and your ideals and morals. Never compromise yourself to make others happy.
What is your favorite inspirational quote?
“Be mindful of every little pleasure in life by living every day like it is your last day.” — Jin Kwon
What is your favorite sports movie?

What kind of wheels do you skate on?
A combination of Fugitives and G-rods.
Tailbone protector or padded shorts?
Padded shorts
What advice would you give to someone looking to enter the world of derby?
